LUANG PRABANG ROYAL TOUR (3 days / 2 nights)
Luang Prabang the Lao World heritage town, where life is so relaxed, is situated on the banks of the Mekong River xxx km North of Vientiane. This former royal capital of Laos is a must-see with its many temples, cultural and historic sights and unique ambiance. Our tour will take to all the places. In the morning you will be taken from Villa Manoly to the Vientiane Airport for the 30 minutes flight to Luang Prabang. On arrival your guide takes you to your hotel, Villa Santi, that belongs to one the princesses and is built in a lovely French-Lao style which sets you many years back in time. In Villa Santi you will enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the former Royal Palace, now a National Museum and the Vat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-reliefs. Afterwards you may climbe the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi to enjoy the splendid panoramic view of the royal city and the surrounding mountains. After a stop by the evening hill tribe market you will enjoy a superb dinner at the Villa Santi prepared by the daughter of the former royal chef. Overnight at Villa Santi.
After your breakfast, your guide will take you onboard a slow boat that goes up the Mekong River to the Pak Ou caves that display thousands of statues of Buddha. Processions and pilgrimages take place here many times during the, the most spectacular being the one held at Pi Mai Lao, the Lao New Year in April. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant, located on the bank of Nam Ou River, a Mekong tributary. In the afternoon you will enjoy an excursion to the beautiful and impressive Kuang Si waterfall situated some 15 km south west of Luang Prabang. On the way we will make stops at a villages inhabited by mountain ethnic people. Kuang Si waterfall is set in a lush landscape, with clear and turquoise natural terraced pools at its feet. Be sure to bring your swim suit and a towel if you want to enjoy a refreshing swim. After the return to Luang Prabang your dinner will be served at L’Elephant, another of the town’s excellent restaurants. Here you will taste some of the specialities of Luang Prabang. In the very early morning you can experience the offering of food to the monks along the streets of Luang Prabang. After breakfast you will visit beautiful Ying Thong temple, which is showing best in the morning sun. At the temple you will see the 12 metres high royal funeral carriage used for the last time in 1959 for king Sisavang Vong. In the courtyard of the Visun temple stands the Vat Mak mo, the Watermelon Stupa which is shaped like the fruit it takes it name from. You will also visit the Aham temple where the altar of the two genius Luang Prabang can be found. At the That temple the ashes of king Sisavang Vong are sheltered inside the large central stupa. In the afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for the flight back to Vientiane.
